KARACHI: Pakistani players failed to impress in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles while they performed up to the mark in squash in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 on Tuesday.

In men’s tennis doubles, Pakistan’s duo of Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan lost to Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Hsiou and Jason Jung 7-6(3), 6-4 after a two-set battle that lasted for almost two hours.

The tense first set lasted for 62 minutes which the Pakistani duo lost 7-3 on a tiebreak after it remained 6-6 in its initial phase.

The second set was won 6-4 by the Chinese duo without any difficulty as they proceeded to the next round.

In women’s doubles, Pakistan’s duo of Ushna Suhail and Sarah Ibrahim lost in straight sets without winning a single game to Indonesia’s Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Priskila Rompies.

The Indonesians emerged victorious 6-0, 6-0 after a 44-minute long battle.

Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Pakistani pair of Aqeel and Sarah lost to India’s Yuki Bhambri and Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets without winning a game.

On the other hand, Pakistan started its journey on a high note in men’s squash.

The Green Shirts won both of their matches in the group. They won their first match 2-1 against Qatar while the second victory came against Nepal 3-0.

While the men’s side started well, the Pakistan women’s squash side failed to perform in their respective matches.

The women’s team first lost to India 3-0 and then against Malaysia with the same scoreline.

In boxing discipline, Pakistan’s Mohammad Qasim started his campaign brilliantly and won against UAE’s Nawwaf Alzahmi 5-0 in the 57kg category.

Qasim was chosen as the undisputed winner by all five judges.
